RECENTLY, I HAPPENED TO VISIT TO HYDERABAD IN TELANGANA- THE 29TH STATES OF INDIA, AH.... IT WOULD NOT BE INCORRECT TO SAY 28TH STATE, AS STATUS OF JAMMU AND KASHMIR CHANGED TO UNION TERRITORY. A QUESTION FOR YOU... HOW MANY STATES AND UNION TERRITORIES ARE THERE IN INDIA PRESENTLY.
IN TELANGANA/ANDHRAPRADESH OR TELGU SPEAKING REGION, NAME OS MANY PLACES YOU WOULD FIND WITH SUFFIX 'PET' LIKE HAMIMPET, SHAMIRPET. OUT OF CURIOUSITY, I ASKED TO GOOGLE DEVTA.. INITIALLY, I WAS UNABLE TO ANSWER; BUT I FOUND THE ANSWER IN SECOND OR THIRD ATTEMPT... IT IS AS UNDER:
[The suffix "pet" in Samirpet and Hakimpet is a Telugu word that means "place" or "area" in Hindi. It is a common suffix used in many Telugu names of places, indicating a location or a village.
So, Samirpet means "Samir's place" or "Samir's area", and Hakimpet means "Hakim's place" or "Hakim's area" in Hindi.
In Hindi, the word "पेट" (pet) has a different meaning, which is "stomach" or "abdomen", as I mentioned earlier. But in the context of these place names, the suffix "pet" is used to indicate a location, not the bodily organ.]
